Amapi is a fast 3D modeler from TGS, Inc. for polygonal and Nurbs design. It is both a stand alone application (for PC and Mac) as well as being available with a plugin connection to 3Ds max 2.5 AND 3. Typically you will find that it is an excellent companion to 3DS MAX, in that it significantly speeds up the creation or modification of 3D geometry. An Interactive Training CD is available from Animhouse: www.animhouse.com

Using and Evaluating Amapi 5.15 TE
In order to evaluate the many new powerful features of Amapi 5.15, install and run the Trial Edition of Amapi 5.15, included also on this CD, along with an extensive presentation of the new features, tutorials, documentation and links to other Amapi users. When using the Trial Edition (TE) of Amapi 5.15, you can operate in demo mode (which is the default) for as long as you want without trial password.
In Demo mode, saving or exporting is disabled, however all other features are enabled, such as rendering to image file, animation files (AVI) and all modeling tools. You can therefore take your time and learn the new features of Amapi at your leisure without rushing into a buy-don't-buy decision. When you need to test the exports, or want to save your current 3D model on disk, or use the 3DSMAX plugin to move data from Amapi back to MAX, then you'll need a trial password. In order to obtain a trial password, which is good for several weeks:
- go to www.tgs.com/amapi
- select 'PC Demo'
- enter your registration info.
- make sure your email address is correct. The trial password will be sent automatically by the server via Email to that address.
- after registration, an Email message is sent to your email address, with a temporary trial password. You'll then see a choice of sites from which to download the Amapi Demo (Trial Edition). You won't really need to continue at this point, unless a newer version of Amapi is available by that time.
- Check your mailbox for an email from TGS after a few minutes. It will contain a trial password which is good for a few weeks.
What about the 3DS MAX Plugin for Amapi?
You can find the installer for the 3DS MAX plugin to Amapi at this web location:
If the location has changed from the time of this printing, go to www.tgs.com/amapi and look for Import/Export options, where you should be able to find a link to the 3DS MAX plugin. The plugin installer (for Amapi 5.1) is available for MAX 2.5 or 3. Amapi 4.1 works with the MAX 2.5 plugin only. For Amapi 4.1, the plugin installer is provided on the CD.
